Sesame Oil: Beyond the Cooking Pan

Sesame oil - nallennai - has always had two lives in a Tamil household: one in the kitchen, and one outside it, as part of everyday self-care. Ours is made the traditional way, so both uses still make sense.

In the kitchen

Our sesame oil is pressed with just sesame seeds and a small amount of jaggery, the traditional way, which gives it a deeper colour and a distinctly toasted, nutty aroma. It's commonly used for tempering and for finishing certain dishes where that aroma is exactly the point.

Oil pulling and massage

Sesame oil has long been used in traditional routines like oil pulling and head or body massage, well before "wellness" became a marketing word for it. We're not making any medical claims here - we're simply noting it's the same oil used for generations for these traditional practices, unrefined and without additives.

Why it looks and smells stronger than what you may be used to

If you've only used refined sesame oil from a supermarket, ours will look darker and smell noticeably more toasted. That's the jaggery and the traditional pressing method, not a defect - refined sesame oil is deliberately lightened and deodorised, which is exactly what we don't do.

Choosing a size

Available in 500ml and 1 Litre, depending on how much of it your kitchen (or your routine) goes through.
